10 reasons why

Why MIDI School

For over a decade Manchester MIDI School (M.M.S) has been providing cutting edge training for the music and multimedia industries for the novice and professional alike.

- MMS guarantees more individual practical studio time than any other music tech college/university. Studio time is available from 12noon-10pm Monday-Friday and 12noon-9pm at weekends.

- MMS is certified by Apple, Ableton Training Centre, and Steinberg to train students in the creative use of all the leading DAW packages. Most colleges have no certification therefore you are not being trained by professionals,at M.M.S you are.

- All of our courses are taught in small groups, in the studio environment. Our emphasis in on providing you with all the practical skills necessary to be successful in your chosen field. Only essential theory is taught, allowing us to make our courses extremely hands on.

- Our teaching studios are always equipped with cutting edge, industry standard software and hardware. They are also furnished with executive chairs and Chesterfield sofas to make your working environment as comfortable as possible.

- MMS is based in a city centre music industry complex unlike any other college. In addition to the school, there are also commercial, industry-active studios located in the MMS building.

- All of our staff are active music industry professionals in a multitude of disciplines including, recording/mixing, production, remixing and DJing however are all qualified lecturers.

- Outside lesson time, students can get advice and tech support from our staff on a one to one basis. We actively oversee student practical sessions 7 days per week, should you need any help.

- MMS has established connections with current artists, labels and recordings studios. We regularly run masterclasses and workshops where successful artists, producers and DJs come along to give our students advice on how to make it happen in their chosen field. We also organise trips to other large commercial recording studios around Manchester to allow students to gain a wide knowledge of studio set-ups and equipment.

- Studio time can be used to complete MMS projects, or to work on your own material. Should you miss a lesson, we can bring you up to speed, or help you out with anything not understood in the lectures. We can also show you further specific studio techniques in this time, which will help you attain the sound you are looking for.

- You will also take away general transferrable skills from the courses we run, including: I.T. knowledge, teamwork/communication skills, organisational skills, deadline management, and problem solving skills.

Quality training in this field is virtually non-existent because mainstream music educators have found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the rate at which technology is evolving. Yet the audio industry is vast and in demand of suitably skilled professionals. Music is actually the U.K’s second largest export!

Manchester MIDI School bridges the gap between ambitious individuals and an industry shrouded in mystery and too often perceived as inaccessible. At present we are witnessing a new musical renaissance, with the internet leading the way. Well educated people are now far more in control of their own destinies than ever before. If you have creative ideas and the drive to express and realise them, now is a great time to start.

"Of all the Music Technology Schools we visited on our Red Bull Music Academy UK lecture tour, I would have to say that we found Manchester MIDI School by far the best."

Chris Cox, Red Bull Music Academy.
