Success and Feedback

Richard Dutton Music

The So & So's went into the Midi School in Salford, Manchester with no expectations or preconceptions, just an overwhelming desire to cut some of their best and newest tracks, and have a bit of a laugh in the process.

After being offered the chance to record several tracks as part of the Sound Engineering Module, we set out deciding how best to approach the session, what tracks to play and the equipment that we needed. Ben, one of the studio technicians, provided us with cabs and a shell drum kit, making it as easy as possible for us to get to the studio and get set up.

We arrived at the Midi School, climbed the staircase up to the unknown studio layout and were met by so many chilled, smiling faces in the form of the Midi School students and the Staff. This immediately set a great atmosphere for us to perform in. The provided equipment was set up all ready, so we were pretty much ready to dive right in to the 1st take.

Christophe is a man who obviously knows his stuff inside out, the consumate professional, and being able to just have someone there to kinda hold the reigns but be selective when to tug made all the difference. It came together really quickly, the rooms were spacious, the amps and gear in general was top of the range, and all laid on for us. Just kinda picked up our sticks/guitars/ears and just laid it down as we heard it. Its the things that Christophe does that you don't hear that make all the difference. Having the students there to bounce ideas off was a new experience for us, and it really worked, especially when you felt that these guys really cared about the sound of the finished product, and didn't let their own personal tastes in music intervene in that process. Everyone was really down with what were were doing, and the end product sounded great!! And after all, that's whats it's all about...great job, can't wait for the next time...."
